Geocache Description:

Katie's Corner

"A Place Where Love Grows"

This field-puzzle cache requires a walk of less than 1 kilometer. Nearby is a 4-star rated children's play zone, 7 baseball fields, and a 3-stage multi-cache which brought us here.

Parking is available on W. Erie Avenue. Please observe street cleaning ordinances and handicapped reserved spots.

Rutherford has been called the "Borough of Trees" and "The First Borough of Bergen County". The Old Erie Main Line sets the border of Rutherford and East Rutherford. This section was abandoned in the early 1960s and the drawbridge over the Passaic River was swung in the open position, and soon put up for sale price of $0.00 by the mayor of Passaic.

Today the rail trail provides a commanding view of these outstanding borough parks and playgrounds. It also forms a backdrop for Katie's Corner, the Rutherford Community Garden and tree farm. The woodchip-lined trail has a historic marker near Jackson Ave/Carlton Ave and incorporates rail artifacts into the trailscape. A remaining milepost contains the railroad hieroglyphics: "JC 10" (10 miles to Jersey City).

Katie's grandfather Charles died in 2014 at the age of 76 and he was predeceased by Katie herself in 2001. Her brief life must have truly inspired great love.
