Diese Tour führt Euch durch eine verlassene Siedlung, die ursprünglich als Leprastation gebaut wurde. Schon von der Autobahn TF1 kann man die Spitze der Kirche sehen. Über das große Gelände verstreut stehen viele verlassene Gebäude, die nach der Nutzung als Leprastation für viele Jahre vom Militär genutzt wurden (bis 2002).
Zum Start fahrt Ihr zum Parkplatz am Strand von Abades (TF1-Ausfahrt Villa of Arico/Abades) und geht von dort aus ca. 5 Minuten zur Stage 1. Manchmal sind in der Gegend wilde Hunde unterwegs. Wir haben aber noch nie von Problemen diesbezüglich gehört. Von dort aus geht es in die Siedlung (waypoint 2 und 3). Von dort dem Weg weiter folgen zu den Koordinaten N 28° 08.800 W 016° 26.212. Insgesamt braucht man etwa eine halbe Stunde. Erschreckt nicht, wenn unterwegs plötzlich jemand mit Tarnanzug und Pistole vor Euch steht. Der Ort wird gelegentlich von Paint-Ball-Spielern genutzt. Mein Tipp: Nehmt Badezeug mit und nutzt eine der beiden Strände. Nach dem ( hoffentlichen ) Fund könnt Ihr den naheliegenden Cache „ghost town“ suchen. Viel Spaß beim Suchen!
You tour a deserted village that originally was erected as a leprosy station. Already from the freeway TF1 you can see the peak of the church. Besides the church there are a lot of buildings distributed over a huge area. After the location was no longer needed for leprosy-patients it was used by the military (until 2002).
You start at the parking area at the black beach of Abades (TF1-Exit Villa of Arico/Abades) and walk about 15 Minutes to stage 1. Please take note that sometimes there are wild dogs around. We never heard about problems though. From there you walk through the village. From there you move on to N 28° 08.800 W 016° 26.212 . . In total you will need about 30 minutes from the parking lot. While on your way don’t be afraid if somebody appears in camouflage and with a pistol in their hand. The deserted village is used occasionally by paint-ball-players. My recommendation: bring swim-clothes and take a swim in one of the two beaches. I also recommend that you visit the cache “ghost town” that was the first cache in this area. Happy hunting!
