Geocache Description:

The listed coordinates will take you to a field - but this cache is not there. There is a good cache near there GC3HHQH, An Iconic Spot of Rugby, which tells you about the history of rugby in Nelson. This cache is about a well known former All Black with no connection to Nelson.

This cache was inspired by all the recent talk about Richie McCaw being the best ever All Black Captain. The same allocade was given in the past to Wilson Whineray. In 2007 he was the first New Zealander inducted into the IRB Hall of Fame.

The great New Zealand rugby writer Terry McLean declared ‘unhesitatingly’ that Wilson Whineray was New Zealand’s ‘greatest captain’. He even named a book about the 1963–64 northern hemisphere tour after a famous lineout move Whineray used in the series. The title is relevant for the cache .

After he retired from rugby he was almost as well known in his business career. He was Chairman of Carter Holt Harvey, managing director of the New Zealand Wool Marketing Corporation, chairman of the National Bank of New Zealand and a director of Auckland International Airport and APN News & Media. Outside business, he chaired the Hillary Commission from 1993 to 1998 and was honorary colonel of the SAS from 1997 to 2001. Sir Wilson was knighted in 1998 "for services to sport and business management".

His philosophy was “Good teams do simple things well. It's true of footy teams. It's true of businesses.”

It is his rugby career that is the theme for the puzzle.

The number of his appearances for the All Blacks was AA.

Whinerary was NZ Sportman of the Year in 196B.

Whineray played in XY tests. C = X+Y.

His age in years on his All Black debut was 2D.

He was first captain of the All Blacks in 195E.

The title of Terry Mcleans book named after his famous move had 2 words. F is the difference between the number of letters in the first word and in the second word of the title.

Whineray played in G test matches against South Africa.

The number of unions that Whineray played first class rugby for was H

The cache is at South 41 1A.BCD East 173 1E.FGH
