Geocache Description:

A cache in the cutting on Bromsgrove Road in Holy Cross, Clent. The Rocks are a cutting through sandstone created in the 19th Century to make the road level.

This cache is hidden on the pavement (west) side of Bromsgrove Road at the Holy Cross cutting (known as The Rocks cutting) in Clent.

History:

According to 'A Short History of Clent' by John Amphlett written in 1907;

"There was great distress in the Lye and the districts around Stourbridge in 1834 and numbers of men were employed in lowering the cutting in the sandstone rocks between Oldmill and Holy Cross, through which the Stourbridge and Bromsgrove highroad passes. The level of the road was lowered considerably, and the soil used in filling up the lower ground at either end of the cutting. The hill, before it was cut through, was called Button's Bank, a name now all but forgotten. The date 1834 is carved in large figures on the east side of the cutting, but the figures are now getting somewhat indistinct."

Cache Information:

You will need to bring a pen or pencil and ideally tweezers to get the logbook out.
