A cache placed in protest of the reopening of the mining in the Karangahake gorge by New Talisman Gold.

The Conservation Department has authorised the company to enter and operate its Talisman mine permit, allowing the extraction of 600 tonnes of ore a month in a trial mining project.

Both iwi and locals are opposing to mining in the gorge and the Hauraki District Council and the Department of Conservation should never have given the New Talisman project the go-ahead. A large protest was held with more then 300 people in September 2014.

The cache is a medium size pil container placed along the No 7 level Dubbo track and can be reached from starting at the Karangahake carpark near SH2 or Dickey's Flat campground.
