Tom died aged 91 in 2006 , and was regarded as “Scotland’s most popular mountain man” who introduced generations to Scotland’s outdoors through his adventures which were popularised in his Weir’s Way series. As well as presenting Weir's Way between 1976 and 1987, he wrote a monthly feature in the Scots Magazine for about 50 years. Weir was born in Springburn, and was the younger brother of the actress Molly Weir. After service in the Royal Artillery during World War II, he worked as a surveyor for the Ordnance Survey, before commencing a full-time career as a climber, writer and photographer.

B=The third digit that appears on the plaque
C=The number of lights on the ground
