Geocache Description:

I like a cache that takes you somewhere for a reason and this series is one for the public art/sculpture/Andy Scott lovers.

This series of geocaches will take you round five of the six Andy Scott public art works around Clackmannanshire. (Apologies to all the locals who may be sick of the sight of these controversial pieces of public art and will now need to visit each in turn to keep their local map full of smileys. Hopefully you will learn a bit more about each on the way.)

Andy Scott is one of the UK’s leading public artists. His most famous works are his Heavy Horse near J9 on the M8, Arria on the M74 near Cumbernauld (visit GC2F04G) and of course The Kelpies at the Helix Park, Falkirk (visit GC55FFK).

Fox Boy, Menstrie: GC5JQ75

Air Spirit, Tullibody: GC5JQ58

River Spirit, between Sauchie and Alva: GC5JQ62

Lifeline, Alloa: GC5JTCN

This Journeys End, Clackmannan: GC5JTE7

To see all six of Andy Scott’s public art works in Clackmannanshire then take time to also visit Nirikina's "Sidetracked - Alloa" GC4KTG9 where very close by you will find I Can See For Miles, installed in May 2008.

None of the caches are placed on the actual roundabouts. Please consider your personal safety when retrieving caches.

Lifeline

Shillinghill Roundabout, Alloa.

Installed – April 2011

‘Lifeline’ is Andy’s most recent piece to be installed in Alloa Town Centre. Lifeline stands at just under eight metres high and is the largest of the works in the area. Lifeline takes the shape of a giant hand, taken from the gauntlet on Clackmannanshire’s coat of arms, and supports the figures of a woman and child. This statue pays tribute to all the emergency services who put their own lives in danger to help others.

The work also features the words of renowned Scottish poet Jim Carruth ‘Life-line Reach Out, Hold, Close, Cradle, Cushion, Shelter, Protect, Support, Lift Up’.

(Information taken from The Andy Scott Public Art Trail leaflet available to download from www.clacksweb.org.uk)

Parking is available at the nearby supermarket. Please be EXTRA stealthy when retrieving and replacing this cache as it is a very busy area of town. Tweezers may be required and please replace exactly as found.

Congratulations to Bluescorpius on an early morning FTF.
