Route 174 is the road that thousands of tourists a year take to get to Edisto Beach. Route 174 travels in a meandering direction under an ancient live oak canopy and past small homes, prayer chapels, churches, and country stores. SC 174 serves as the primary spine road for Edisto Island, with smaller country roads and lanes intersecting the route, leading to more distant areas of the island. In 2009, the US Department of Transportation declared that a 17-mile stretch of SC 174 on Edisto Island be designated as a National Scenic Byway.
There are currently 37 caches on the 3 1/2 mile long island of Edisto Beach. There are currently only 14 caches on the 25 mile drive down Route 174 to Edisto Beach. I plan on hiding several more caches along the smaller country roads intersecting Route 174. My goal is to bring people to those special places of interest on Edisto Island. OYSTER ROW is the second of the caches I will be hiding. It is hidden just off the road to the Edisto Beach Environmental Learning Center which is a must see for anyone visiting the island. Permission was granted to place this cache here.
This cache contains a log, pencil and small trade items. Please make sure the lid to the cache is closed tightly, and re-hide it exactly as you found it.
Enjoy your trip to Edisto!
