Makarora Magic (Otago) Traditional Cache

This cache is placed in Makarora township.  It is an easy park and grab.

Makarora Township is situated on the Haast Pass Highway between Wanaka and Haast Pass.  I have visited this place often as it is home to friends of mine.   There are no shops or services just a few houses.  It is situated in a delighful part of the world with access to many outdoor experiences.  The drive along Lakes Hawea and Wanaka is truly beautiful and the dramatic pass across to the west coast is a great route to follow on a South Island Holiday.  There are a number of Department of Conservation campsites in the locality.  See http://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-stay/conservation-campsites-by-region/otago/wanaka-makarora/.  There is no cell phone coverage in the area so you will need to come prepared.
