The zebra swallowtail butterfly (Euryotides marcellus) was designated the official state butterfly of Tennessee in 1995. This unique butterfly has black and white stripes running the length of its body with red and blue spots on the lower back. Its distinctive wing shape and long tails make it easy to identify. It can be seen from late March to August in the northern portion of its range and from February to December in the southern portion.
A striking butterfly that can be found throughout most of the United States.
