旧東海道を渡した金杉橋は、古川の川幅拡張工事が行われた延宝3年（1675年）に架けられ、江戸時代は、流罪者を運ぶ遠島船の出た橋としても知られました。現在の橋は、都電廃止後の昭和46年改架のものですが、屋形船や小さな漁船が両岸の川面をびっしりと埋める古川河口部の景観は、都電全盛の頃からさほど変わってません。江戸期の切絵図を見ると、東海道から少し東へ入ればすぐに海であり、明治期の中頃までは漁村の趣を残した街並みでした。
罪を犯して遠島になる者は、金杉橋の際と、永代橋の際から島送りの舟に乗せられました。
永代橋から出る舟に乗る者は、一生、島から帰って来れない者で、金杉橋のところから乗船するのは、月日が経てば、いつか江戸へ帰って来られるあてのある者だったそうです。
キャッシュは、金杉橋の近くの公園に隠しました。キャッシュの向かい、国道15号線をはさんだところに、交番があります。あまり、怪しい事をして島流しにならないように。
