I used to live in the two story house across the alley from this cache. It has a basement that runs the full length of the house, something that is rare in Denton. When my boys were in high school they made the basement their room, a perfect teenage boy cave.
After we moved out some college students and musicians moved in and would throw big parties and had jam sessions in the basement. The basement was eventually dubbed "The Lions Den" because on the chimney there is a bust of a Lion head (you can see it poking through the ivy that is growing up the side of the chimney).
When we first moved in the current owner told us that the original owner who had it built had a son that went off to war. The story goes that every day the son was gone the father would hide a gold coin on the property until his son returned. During the 5 years that we lived there we never found a gold coin. We certainly looked! We chalked it up as an urban myth.
