I would like to do a series of caches that follow the Steamtown Marathon. I have run the Steamtown Marathon many time and the years I have not, I have watched it since it goes right by my house. Some of the cache hides might be places that the runners have run by and never even realized what they just passed because they are focused on surviving the marathon.
In this series the cache name will include the approx. mile marker of the route. Therefore they can be placed in any order.
This one is at Gravity Park which is approxiamately 7.8 miles from the start of the marathon.
I have updated the name and the mileage to go along with the route changes that were made.
Gravity Park was established by the Delaware and Hudson Railroad on the site of what was formerly a portion of the roadbed of Plane No. 1 when the Delaware and Hudson Canal Company's Gravity Railroad from Carbondale to Honesdale opened on October 9, 1829. By means of this Gravity Railroad and the D&H Canal from Honesdale to the Hudson River, the D&H sent many millions of tons of anthracite coal to market in the New York/New England area in the course of the nineteenth century. In 1899, this "gravity" railroad was converted into a conventional steam locomotive line, which operated until 1930.
The cache is inside the park so you do not have to worry about going near the river.
BYOP It is a nano, so you might need tweezers.
Parking is available at the end of Terrace St.
After retrieving the cache, take a moment to sit and relax in this peacful little park.
Congratulations to 0;)Angel on the FTF (especially in the middle of an ice storm
