Ermita de Villaverde
Encajonada entre los Tajos del Almorchón y las paredes verticales de las Mesas de Villaverde, donde se situaba la ciudad mozárabe de Bobastro. Junto a la ermita actual, reformada durante los años sesenta del siglo pasado, se descubrió una necrópolis de tumbas excavadas en la roca, antropomorfa, de época mozárabe y frente a la ermita, un promontorio conserva los restos de una torre de vigilancia, conocida como Peñón del Moro que indican la gran importancia del enclave. Probablemente, la antigua ermita, era otra de las iglesias extramuros de Bobastro, tal y como indican las fuentes.
Hasta los años veinte del siglo pasado se celebraban fiestas de moros y cristianos, en la actualidad se sigue celebrando (el 8 de septiembre) la misa de romería de la Virgen de Villaverde, patrona de Ardales que, según la tradición, apareció tras la conquista cristiana en este paraje.
Villaverde Chapel
This chapel is located between the steep cliffs of Almorchón and the vertical walls of the Villaverde Mesas, where the Mozarabic village of Bobastro once stood. Next to the current chapel, reformed in the sixties in the last century, you find a cemetery of anthropomorphic tombs from the Mozarabic Era carved into the rock. Opposite the chapel is a headland containing the remains of a watchtower, better known as the Peñón del Moro, indicating the importance of the site. Probably the old chapel was another of the extramural churches of Bobastro, as indicated by the sources.
Until the twenties in the last century, there were celebrations for Moors and Christians. Nowadays, there is still a celebration (September 8), the pilgrimage mass in honour of the Villaverde Virgin, patron of Ardales which, according to tradition, appeared after the Christian conquest in this area.
