Geocache Description:

This cache is located on an old, but recently re-opened, trail that leads to an abandoned donkey spool (alas, not a donkey's pool) used to winch fallen trees through the forest on steel cables. When logging ended here at the end of the 1920s, this piece of equipment was abandoned and has spent the last 90 years watching the forest grow up again around it.

We placed this cache on a recent family hike. My son chose the spot for this cache.

The easiest way to get to this cache is to park at the bottom of the Incline Trail, then travel this trail north for about 800 meters. Turn west opposite the Eric Dunning Trail, and follow this trail. Where it forks, stay left. The cache is located about 9 meters south of the trail.

Keep following the trail west to meet the donkey spool at the given waypoint. It's a few meters north of the trail, so look carefully. A bit further again, this trail meets up with the Fire Access Trail. The donkey spool stands at the intersection with the UBC Research Forest bypass connector trail to Mike Lake.
