Geocache Description:

When the logging operations of Abernethy and Lougheed ceased in this area in the late 1920s, it left behind a scarred landscape that over the next 90 years grew into the forest that you see here.

Here you can get a bit of an idea what the area must have looked like before and after logging. At least 20 massive stumps stand around here paying tribute to what this forest once was, and perhaps once again will be.

This cache can be accessed via the UBC Research Forest bypass connector. This is a trail recently opened up by the Ridge Meadows Outdoor Club, connecting the Mike Lake Trail with the Donkey Spool Trail.

Both trailheads may be a little hard to locate. Entering the trail is easiest at the top, north end. Make your way to the donkey spool waypoint by means of the Incline Trail (park here, or park at Mike Lake) then turning west opposite the Eric Dunning Trail. Once you reach the donkey spool, head pretty much due south and look for the faint beginnings of the trail. The trail is eventually marked with pink-with-black-polka-dots flagging tape.

The cache is not too far down the trail from the donkey spool, hidden some 20 meters east of the trail, which gives you a chance to visit some of the giants.
