This should be a quick, easy roadside cache located just outside Piketberg.
To your right you should see the Groot Winterhoek mountains which rises to a maximum height of 2077m as Groot Winterhoek peak. The Groot Winterhoek Wilderness Area, operated by Cape Nature, comprises a conservation area of 30608ha, and contains waterfalls, swimming holes, pristine rivers and mountain wilderness.
In a northerly direction one can see the Cederberg mountains which rises to a maximum height of 2026m as Sneeuberg peak. The area is named after the endangered Clanwilliam Ceder (Widdringtonia cedarbergensis), which is a tree endemic to the area. The mountains are noted for dramatic rock formations and San rock art. The Cederberg Wilderness Area is administered by Cape Nature.
Sneeuberg peak is the home of http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GCXHKP "Where Angels Fear To Tread"
Groot Winterhoek currently has no cache, but http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GCQF3A "die Hel" is not to far away and is within the reserve.
When I drive past here I always get that longing feeling. Longing to be hiking either one of the areas. A bad day hiking beats the best of days at the office.
Remember to bring your own pen, as there is none in the container.

- Follow Leave No Trace (www.lnt.org) ethics whenever possible.
- When seeking a cache, practice "Lift, Look, Replace" - put all stones or logs back where you found them. Leave the area as you found it or better (e.g. pick up litter).
