La basilique St Joseph des fins d'Annecy fut bénie le 4 juillet 1937, à la veille de la Seconde Guerre mondiale par Monseigneur Florent-Michel de la Villerabel, évêque du diocèse d'Annecy, la première pierre de cette église dont le saint patron serait Saint Joseph.

L’initiateur du projet fut le prêtre Amédée Folliet, qui grâce à sa ténacité a mené le projet à bien. L’église fut terminée en 1941 par l’architecte bénédictin Dom Paul Bellot, dans le style trapu de la région, personnalisé par ce grand novateur de l’art sacré contemporain, aîné de près de 30 ans de Novarina. La décoration intérieure de l’édifice, érigé au rang de basilique mineure par Paul VI en 1964, proscrit presque toutes les lignes courbes au profit de voûtes à arcatures brisées. Les vitraux sont de Charlin. La construction de l'église Saint-Joseph-des-Fins accompagne la croissance de la ville d'Annecy vers le nord, suivant la marche d'une urbanisation aérée et encore conventionnelle.

Une des particularité de la basilique réside en l’une de ses cloches. En effet, cette cloche est une des 57 cloches qui ont été fondues à Annecy au cours du printemps et de l’été de l’année 1950 par la fonderie Paccard (d'où la bonus Paccard Bells) . Chacune d’elles est une reproduction exacte de la cloche de la liberté nommée par le peuple américain : Liberty Bell

Celle-ci retentit pour proclamer en 1776 l’indépendance américaine à Philadelphie, en Pennsylvanie, et que le peuple américain a considéré depuis comme étant un symbole de ces jours mémorables.

On s’est servi de ces cloches depuis le 15 mai jusqu’au 4 juillet 1950 à titre d’emblème pour la campagne des bons du trésor Américain. Ces cloches seront exposées en permanence dans chaque État des États-Unis ainsi qu’au district de Columbia, à Hawaï et en Alaska, à Porto Rico et dans les Îles Vierges. Une de ces cloches a été donnée au Japon.

Les habitants d’Annecy ont fait don d’une cloche aux habitants de la ville d’Independence (Missouri), foyer du président des États-Unis, Mr Harry S. Truman.

Le gouvernement des États-Unis d’Amérique a fait les arrangements nécessaires pour donner cette cloche à la ville d’Annecy en reconnaissance de l’habileté technique et de l’art de ses ouvriers et rappeler le fait que la liberté est un héritage commun de la France et des États-Unis.

The Basilica of St Joseph of Annecy was blessed for July 4, 1937, on the eve of World War II by Monsignor Michel Florent of Villerabel, Bishop of the Diocese of Annecy It's patron will be saint Saint Joseph.

The initiator of the project was the priest Folliet Amedee. Thanks to his tenacity he has carried out the project. The church was completed in 1941 by the Benedictine architect Dom Paul Bellot, in the squat style of the region, personalized by the great innovator of the contemporary sacred art, eldest of nearly 30 years of Novarina. The interior decoration of the building, erected to the rank of minor basilica by Pope Paul VI in 1964, outlawed almost all curved lines in favor of broken arches vaults. The windows are from Charlin. The construction of the church Saint-Joseph-des-Fins accompanies the growth of the city of Annecy to the north, following the course of an airy and conventional urbanization.

One feature of the basilica lies in one of its bells. Indeed, this bell is one of 57 bells were melt in Annecy in the spring and summer of 1950 by the Paccard Foundry (hence the Paccard Bells bonus).

Each is an exact replica of the Liberty Bell named by the American people: Liberty Bell

This one rang in 1776 for the American independence in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the American people has been regarded as a symbol of those memorable days.

These bells where used since May 15 to July 4, 1950 as an emblem for the campaign bills American treasure. They will be permanently exhibited in every state in the United States and the District of Columbia, Hawaii and Alaska, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. One of these bells was given in Japan.

The people of Annecy donated a bell to the people of the city of Independence (Missouri), home of the US President, Mr Harry S. Truman.

The United States Government has made the necessary arrangements to give this bell to the town of Annecy in recognition of technical skill and art of his workers and remember that freedom is a common heritage France and the United States.
