Geocache Description:

The property is now known as the Black Earth Creek Wildlife Area (BCEWA) - Sunnyside Unit. Dane County adopted a Master Plan for the wildlife area in February 2011 that designated it as a "wildlife area," open to all types of public hunting and trapping, as well as fishing, hiking, and cross-country skiing.

This property has a very irregular shape, IMHO, and is surrounded by private property. I was there one day placing a couple of caches and decided to walk the property boundaries (North of Hwy 14). Hence this series.

This hike is not for the faint of heart. Once you get past the 5th one the going gets tough until near the end. There are NO paths to take, unless you find game trails. Almost non-stop bushwhacking will be required between caches 5 and 13. The terrain will also get rather steep in places (up and down).

All that being said it is a very scenic area with lots of wildlife, just outside of Middleton, and well worth the effort. Besides, I did it and I am certainly no spring chicken.

The appropriate permit has been obtained from the Dane County Parks Department. A copy of which is in the cache container. Please do not remove.

Congratulations to Kungfuhippie for the FTF!
