Geocache Description:

This cache will take you to three different locations with historical information about Spencer Smith Park, and the area nearby.  You will need to collect information from each location to find the final.  All three stages, are wheelchair accessible, but the final is not.  I guess you could say this is a four stage multi-cache.

Spencer Smith Park

The land for Spencer Smith Park was originally granted to the Mohawk leader Joseph Brant, in recognition of his service to The British Crown during the American Revolution.

During the 19th century and into the 20th, Lakeshore Road formed the shoreline of Lake Ontario. There was no protection from storms, and waves frequently washed over the road, and threatened nearby property. In 1939 the federal government built a seawall. That same year, the Burlington Horticultural Society (Lead by Spencer Smith) started cleaning up the shoreline just west of the foot of Brant Street, planting trees, and infilling parts of the land.  Some of the willow trees Spencer Smith planted are still growing at the east end of the park.  You may have already seen them.  This land, originally known as Lakeside Park, was later renamed Spencer Smith Park to honour Spencer Smith - a former president of the society.

Final is at:  N 43 1 A . B C D   W 079  4 E . F G H

At the posted coordinates - You will find a plaque with two different years

B = the third number of the first date

D = the number of years on the executive, minus 25

F = the difference between the third and fourth number of the second date

At Stage 2 - You will find a historical plaque

C = the third number of the year built, minus the number of stories

A = the second digit of how old Thomas Greene was when he died

At Stage 3 - You will find a third plaque (lots of history here)

E = The final digit of the year demolished

G = The final digit of the year sold

H = The number of times “Irish” and “Ireland” appear

Good Luck and Happy Caching!
