The Federal highway links Canberra to the Hume Highway near Goulburn. It was completed in 1931 and sealed in 1936. From the mid 1980s through the 90's the road was gradually upgraded to a dual carriageway. Several sections of the old road still exist and make an interesting diversion from the current highway. This series of caches show a few places along the way.
This cache is on a long stretch of the old highway that winds through the wooded hills. Much nicer than the new highway, but not as safe!
The road leaves the current highway near the Tulip farm and crosses the Yass river (2 caches nearby). It then climbs through farmland and then through bush beside Donnelly's creek.
