The Federal highway links Canberra to the Hume Highway near Goulburn. It was completed in 1931 and sealed in 1936. From the mid 1980s through the 90's the road was gradually upgraded to a dual carriageway. Several sections of the old road still exist and make an interesting diversion from the current highway. This series of caches show a few places along the way.
The top of the last hill before the old road winds down to Lake George at Geary's Gap (where it meets the new road at the rest area). It must have been a noisy spot here in years gone by with trucks pulling up the hill.
