Moulting Lagoon Game Reserve is a 900 sq km internationally recognised wetland adjacent to the Coles Bay Road. It is an important breeding ground for various waterfowl and wetland birds, and also a destination for migratory birds.

Moulting Lagoon is one of 10 wetlands in Tasmania listed in 1982 under the Ramsar Convention, an international treaty for the conservation and sustainable utilisation of wetlands. It supports over 1% of the world populations of Black Swans and Pied Oystercatchers & the largest flock of Common Greenshanks in Tasmania.
