Geocache Description:

This geocache is part of the Taylor County Geotrail, a series of 11 geocaches launched in the Grafton area during Fall 2015.

For years, the name "Pruntytown" struck fear in the hearts of West Virginia children. Pruntytown was home to the West Virginia Industrial Home for Boys, a correctional facility for juvenile boys. The facility was closed in 1983, when boys were transferred to the formerly girls-only facility at Salem.

Pruntytown State Farm Sign

During its heyday, Pruntytown State Farm Wildlife Management Area was used to grow food for the residents at the West Virginia Industrial Home for Boys. Huttonsville Correctional Center in Randolph County had a similar state farm.

Today, Pruntytown State Farm is managed as a beef cattle operation by the West Virginia Department of Agriculture. The 1,764-acre grounds is open for hunting a variety of animals including coyote, deer, grouse, mourning doves, rabbit, and turkey.
