There are many byways to explore in this area, and as you approach the cache location you will see the irrigation canals flowing through from the Wairau river. You can carry on towards to Waihopai river as far as this cache. It's a bit of a bumpy shingle track but a car will get here ok.
Alternatevely you can walk along to here from the Waihopai river bridge if you so desire.
