Old windmill owned by Sandyman the Miller. The Old Mill was located on The Water in Hobbiton. It was burnt down during the War of the Ring by Ruffians. Afterwards, it was rebuilt as the New Mill.

De geschiedenis van deze bijzondere molen begint in 1718, de molen is uniek Nederland vanwege verschillende feiten. Het is de eerste molen in Nederland die met drie koppels (verschillende soorten molenstenen) draait. De combinatie huis - motorhuis - molen is uniek in het opzicht dat via een stoommachine in een bijgebouw op windstille dagen ook gemalen kan worden.
Tot 1953 is hier door verschillende generaties en families gemalen, echter na 1953 door de opkomst van goedkopere alternatieven voor het malen van meel is de molen buiten gebruikt versteld en door de tijd in verval geraakt.
Restauratie plannen waren er al lange tijd voor deze molen maar het winnen van het programma "Bank Giro Loterij Restauratie" in 2007 heeft het een en ander wel geholpen. Tussen 2007 en mei 2010 is de molen compleet gerestaureerd tot wat nu de molen is die hier nu staat.
Sinds 2011 wordt er weer gemalen in de molen.
Zoek niet binnen het hek om de molen, dit is niet nodig.

The history of this remarkable windmill starts in 1718. The mill is unique in Holland for a few reasons: it was the first mill in Holland to use three different sets of millstones, and it had a steam engine in a separate building to run the mill during days with no wind.
Several generations of different families milled grain here, until 1953 when cheaper alternatives for flour were provided by industry. The windmill shut down and in time fell to disrepair.
There were restoration plans for quite some time, but winning the Dutch TV show "Bank Giro Loterij Restauratie" in 2007 helped make the plans a reality. Between 2007 and May 2010, the mill was completely restored into what is currently standing at this location.
From 2011 onward the mill produces flour again.
There is no need to enter the fenced in area around the windmill.
