Geocache Description:

Part of the community, the Camano City School was built around 1905. Over the years the school building hosted a wide variety of lively community gatherings.  A group of volunteers is working to preserve this piece of history for future generations.

You are standing where Camano City was in the early 1900’s.  It was a bustling port city with a post office, general store, small hotel, shingle and lumber mills. Frequent ferry services went south to Seattle, west to Whidbey Island, and north to other Camano Island locations. It served as a public school until around 1936 when the students were transferred to schools in Stanwood. An early teacher at the school, Miss Hayden stayed with a local family the Esarys.
