Geocache Description:

The City Park GeoTrail (CPG) launches on Friday, May 22nd, 2015. The Trail consists of over five (5) geocaches placed at points of interest within Hagerstown's City Park. Caches will be found at the parks museums as well as one other point of interest within the park. An untrackable token will be awarded to the first 900 geocachers who complete the City Park Geotrail!

To be eligible for the token, geocachers must have a CPG Passport. Initial quantities of the passport will be available at the Kick-off Event.

To claim a CPG token, geocachers must find and log all five (5) CPG geocaches, sign the cache logs, record the code word from each cache onto their passport, and have the passport verified at the City Of Hagerstown Parks & Recreation Department (351 N. Cleveland Avenue) or the Visitors Welcome Center (6 North Potomac Street). Please refer to the passport for complete validation instructions. Only ONE token can be claimed per Geocaching.com caching account for completing the trail andNONE will be mailed out. This enables us to spread the most smilies to those who visit The Washington County GeoTrail. We appreciate your cooperation and hope that you enjoy the trail.

Participating in the CPG geotrail is fun and we hope that many people join in. However, it is not a requirement for logging your find on this cache once you find the container.

CPG - Mansion House Art Center

Image result for hagerstown mansion house city park

Situated in one of the most beautiful city parks in America is a Georgian-style mansion house built by John Heyser in 1846. The massive house with its large, inviting wrap-around porch is built of native limestone and bricks. The bricks were, in fact, made from the mud of the graceful lake, now inhabited by swans, which the house overlooks.

Today, the mansion serves as the headquarters for the Valley Art Association. Here, at the Mansion House, one can view the works of over twenty local artists. The old Mansion House creates a beautiful setting for the art that is displayed. In addition to serving as a gallery, the Mansion House also is used for classes and a meeting place for the Valley Art Association.

The cache is a two-stage field puzzle. The supplied coordinates will lead you to the Mansion House. Using information obtained from the signage in the area you will be able to determine the coordinates for the final stage. Stage Two is within walking distance of Stage One.

To navigate successfully to the final, you will need to solve for "ABCD".

The coordinates for the final are:

N 39º 38.ABC, W 077º 44.DDD

From this location there is a sign on the stairs leading up to the Mansion House.

  1. How many green paintbrushes are on the sign? = A
  2. How many words make up the title on this sign? = B
  3. How many dabs of paint are on the pallet on the sign? = C

Near this location is another sign used to answer the following question.

  1. How many dogs are allowed beyond this point? = D
