Geocache Description:

This is the very first geocache that I placed, so I wanted it to be easy for me as well as other cachers. It takes you to a place of history, while also connecting important points for travelling students coming to Cork for study (like I did). You will be looking for a nano here.

This is the place where the newly built Western Road was connected to the old city jail back in 1835. The road is 200 metres long and leads as the "Gaol bridge" across one arm of the river Lee towards the main entrance of the former prison, now University College Cork with its own rich history.

On the junction, there is also the University's Castle White student accomodation, various other accomodations and student services and - most important for Non-Irish students - the International Office.

The cache is an easy pick-and-go and will be most simply accessible if you come by foot or bus. For cars, it might be a bit difficult to stop as Western Road has a high number of traffic. However, you might find parking space in the road parallel to it, the Mardyke Walk.

I want the cache to be accessible for everybody, so please place it back in approximately the height that it had been. Thank you!

Since the container is a small micro, Please Bring Your Own Pen.
