Geocache Description:

This series is dedicated to geocaching spots that once had caches, but saw them go away.  Sometimes the CO left the game, sometimes the cache was muggled and sometimes we don't know why it went away.  However, if the spot was worthy of a cache, I am going to try and bring you back, or maybe bring you here for the first time.

At the corner of 5th Ave and E. 96th St. there is a interesting little section of Central Park.  As you are entering at this spot you will see a sign that says, "This is not an entrance to the park".  So, once you are in here, you will need to exit the way you came in before you can access the rest of Central Park.  It is a nice little spot where many people like to walk their dogs, take a seat and relax or come to see one of the many beautiful statues in Central Park.

The statue here is a life-sized, bronze casting of a marble self-portrait by Danish sculptor Albert Thorvaldsen (1770 - 1844).  This replica was cast in Copenhagen in 1892 and was originally placed north of 59th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues.  It was later moved to 97th Street at 5th Avenue before coming to this little section in 1940.

Cache is a camo'd pill holder hidden away from most of the muggles, but you will still need to use some stealth during the nicer weather.
