A Rudder Near a Cornerstone Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Ezio10: Checked on it a few days ago and couldn't find it myself (although I did lose some of my notes with the solved coords in them, so I had to solve the puzzle myself LOL). Decided not to replace. This one had a great turnout, although the PI issue at the final stage kind of ruined the fun for some people. I honestly did not see any poison ivy when I placed it almost two years ago, although it was winter at the time. Thanks to those who have found or attempted this one.

Geocache Description:

Since this is a local park, it opens dawn to dusk. Please don't attempt this after sunset. The final is a camo'd lock-n-lock.

This multi-cache gives you a historical tour of Jones Point Park by visiting two historical artifacts; a rudder constructed during the WWI era and the South Cornerstone of our nation's capital. You must answer the clues below to get the correct coordinates for the final cache. The coordinates for the final cache is N 38* 47.ABC' W 077* 02.DEF.

The posted coordinates take you to the rudder, a WWI artifact used to outfit steel cargo ships constructed during that era. There, you should see a sign below the artifact to get the latitude coordinates, A, B, and C.

A= the first and last digit of the rudder's height measured. Add the two digits to get clue A.
B= the first digit in the # of feet in width - 1.
C= the rudder was recovered along the banks of the Potomac River near Jones Point on this month of 2000 (look for the month number).

You may now proceed to N 38* 47.422 W 077* 02.439 where you will see the South Cornerstone of DC and a sign next to it regarding this cornerstone just behind the lighthouse facing the Potomac River. Enjoy this fantastic view of the Potomac while writing down the clues to get the longitude coordinates, D, E, and F.

D= the last digit of the day it was commemorated.
E= the last digit of the year a retaining wall was constructed in front of the cornerstone + 1.
F= the number of squared miles that was laid out by surveyors on Jones Point in 1791 to place this cornerstone divided by 5.

The final is located within this park. Take your time searching for this one as the coords may be a little bouncy. I recommend that you find this in the winter as the final tends to have a lot of poison ivy in the summer. If there are any issues, contact me via PAF or e-mail. Nevertheless, watch out for muggles, especially during the summer time. Hope you learned a lot of DC history.
