In the area and visiting one of my favorite places in Kansas - the Alcove Spring Historical Park. Alcove Spring was considered an important location during the days of the California/Oregon Trail(s). Also, it was here that emmigrants would have to cross the Blue River at Independence Crossing. The ill-fated Donner Party also stopped at the Alcove Spring.
In the park, there are hiking trails, historical signs, the grave of an emmigrant, and names of emmigrants chiseled into rocks around the spring. Have been passing by this spot for over 20+ years that I have been living in Kansas and, since I have been geocaching, always thought a cache placement here would be a good idea.
Placed this cache with very limited daylight while heading home after geocaching the Kansas/Nebraska border region - should be a quick enough find. You will have to climb a small hill at this location, nothing to brag about - or is there???
To get to this location, travel north/south on US Hwy 77 between the towns of Blue Rapids/Marysville, KS. At the intersection of Tumbleweed/Temple Road, turn west. Cache is placed at southwest corner of intersection. There is a LARGE brown/yellow sign pointing the way, it is hard to miss.
While in the area, if you have the time, pay a visit to the Alcove Spring and walk in the footsteps of history. Also, the Alcove Spring is considered one of the "8 Wonders of Kansas".
You will be seeking one of those pesky BISON TUBE.
