Geocache Description:

The hike up Matevic Draw is a popular one for Sparwood locals. No surprise, as the draw dominates the skyline to the west of the town.

This cache is placed at a spot with a decent view of the town of Sparwood, mountains to the southeast, and the Elkview mine. Enjoy a rest here and look for the cache.


The cache is available year-round, as is the trail. It may not be packed all the way up in the winter, but I found it easy enough to follow despite that. Although the trail traverses through forest, there is a short section of trail that is just on the other side of the drainage from the main avalanche chute, which shows evidence of running to the bottom periodically. Please be aware in the winter! Of course, be on the lookout for wildlife as well, as always in Sparwood!
