Geocache Description:

St Michael, Farnsfield

ST MICHAEL, FARNSFIELD


St Michael, Farnsfield is a Grade II listed building, attaining the listing on 11 August 1961. Also Grade II listed is the sundial in the churchyard which was listed on 13 May 1986.

The church dates from the C15th and was totally rebuilt with the exception of the tower between 1859-60 by Hine and Evans.

The building plan is a south west tower, nave, north and south aisles, north porch, north organ chamber, south vestry and chancel.

Inside the church is a C12th circular font set on a circular pedestal and base.

All other furniture inside the building dates from C19th and C20th.

On the north tower wall is a monument to William Watson, dated 1755. The inscription is flanked by Ionic pilasters and decorative floral scrolls, surmounting the inscription is a cherub's head with dentil segmental arch over topped with a decorative urn.
