So, the golf course. The golf course was exciting when we were wee. It was where we went to sledge in the winter, back in the day when there was such a thing as snow and not this namby pamby slush that falls these days. It was also a place to go to roll down hills (I still would if I still lived in Spean!), we'd go for picnics over by the stream at the 4th (5th maybe?) hole and if you played there long enough you could collect the golf balls from the rough and sell them back to the golfers who'd lost them!
By the golf course is now the start of a lovely forest walk. It didn't used to be there, although the forest has always been there. In the forest was a wee hut that sometimes the Scouts used. I am actually too young (ha!) to remember the hut but I do remember sneaking up there... walking for MILES from the golf course... and finding the ruins. Those ruins comprised of a few railway sleepers which had beeen the foundation I guess. That is REALLY exciting for a kid.
It's a nice wee spot, it may not be the MILES that it used to be, probably because the path created some teleportation shortcut I guess, it's the only explanation for how this spot would be able to be considered a cache & dash now!
This is my wee tribute to childhood adventure, back when you could be at the other side of the village and playing in the woods without your mum needing to worry what you were up to (just as well she had no idea really!!). Thanks to my buddies Mousekiller and WrongAgain who are going to maintain this cache if it's required.
