The Bank of Canada Prime Rate is the rate on which most banks base their mortgage lending rates. The average Prime Rate between 1960 and 2015 was 7.62%. The highest rate recorded was 22.75% set in August of 1981. (That is not a typo, and that was around the time we got our first mortgage!) The lowest rate was 2.25% set in April of 2009. Just as the Prime Rate of interest fluctuates, so does this cache. Is it high or low for you today? Change it for the next cacher.
