ST GILES, EDINGLEY
St Giles, Edingley is a Grade II* listed building, attaining the listing on 11 August 1961. Also Grade II listed is a pair of headstones in the churchyard dating from 1694. These were listed on 13 May 1986.
The church was built in various stages with building work taking place in the C12th, C13th, C14th, C16th, C17th and C19th. The chancel was rebuilt in 1844 with the church being fully restored in 1890 by Hodgson Fowler.
The building is made up of a west bellcote, nave and chancel. The bellcote is from C19th with a two arched opening for the bells.
Inside the church is an ashlar font with octagonal pedestal and shaped octagonal bowl. The cover is C17th consisting of 8 open painted ribs forming ogee arches and terminating in an acanthus decorated knob. The choir stalls and pews date from C19th. In the north nave is a board detailing benefactions of the parish dated April 17 1895.
