The Boma and Viewing Deck over the dam

Venue: The Boma at Rocky Valley Game Ranch, Bisley Rd, near Pietermaritzburg
Geocachers have been given the use of the Boma at Rocky Valley Game Ranch for a gathering of Pietermaritzburg, Midlands and Ethekwini geocachers. This is an ideal opportunity to meet up with geocachers from other areas as the venue is a short drive for everyone - and there are caches to be found as well!
Rocky Valley Game Ranch is situated on the P120 (Bisley Road) which runs from Pietermaritzburg to the R623 (Umlass Road). Many types of wildlife are on the ranch and you should get sightings of wildebeest, giraffe, hartebeest, zebra, kudu, impala and several other species. Birdlife at the dam alongside the Boma is prolific and should be rewarding. African Fish Eagles are often heard in the area. Bring your binoculars and bird / game guides!
Tea / coffee and scones will be available from 10h00 and the fire will be lit at 12h00.
Please bring your own (m)eats and drinks. Some salads will be provided!
There is shelter in the case of rain or a vicious sun!
Children are welcome, but should not leave the Boma area.
Unfortunately, no dogs allowed!
Please log your WILL ATTEND as soon as possible to assist with catering and other preparations.
Please bring half a bag of charcoal to contribute to the fire!

Driving Directions:
From Durban: Turn off the N3 at the Umlaas Rd interchange and proceed along the R623 for about 6.5 km. Then turn right onto the gravel P120. The Boma gate is a further 6.7 km along this road.
From Pietermaritzburg & Midlands: Pass through Pietermaritzburg on the N3 and take the Market Road offramp, then turn left onto the R103. After 700m turn right onto Gladys Manzi Rd (M50) and continue for 3.2 km, then left onto the P120. The Boma gate is 3.6 km along the P120.
Alternative from Durban or Pmburg: Make your way to the intersection of the R103 and D352 (S29 40.047 E30 26.856) and proceed along the D352 and P120 for 9.2 km.
All roads are suitable for sedan vehicles in all weather conditions.
