Built in an unusual, powerful Victorian Gothic design, on first impression this building looks like a small church. However, it was originally built c1877 as Cowpits Primary School. It accommodated around 60 pupils and taught primary classes 1 and 2 (ages 5-7), split into two classrooms. When the children reached the age of eight they would move on to Crookston Primary, which taught primary classes 3 to 7, this was located where Salters Road now turns onto the A1, sadly, these buildings are now derelict. Its last intake of pupils in 1957 is recorded as being 56 pupils, The Head Teacher being Miss Watt. The pupils were moved to the newly-built Whitecraig Primary School in 1958, taking in pupils from classes P1 to P7 as it still does today.
The old school house is now a private residence.
