This cache was placed on the Tweetsie Trail in a quiet little scenic area on the hillside where Cedar Grove Rd approaches the old rail bed.
A part of the Rails-to-Trails project in Tennessee, the Tweetsie Trail connects Johnson City with Elizabethton where part of the old East Tennessee and Western North Carolina Railroad line once ran. It's now a great walking or cycling trail and a nice, relaxing place to pick up a few caches.
Coordinates should be accurate to within 10' or so. The container is something of a "prototype" and, as such, is only "kind of" what I envisioned and probably isn't the sturdiest thing in the world. Still, I liked it enough that I wanted to try using it. It should be good for a while, but please handle it carefully, replace it as found, and let me know if it breaks or isn't holding up too well so I can replace it with something a little more robust.
UPDATE (7/2021) : This has been replaced numerous times, but I have just found what's left of the *original* container (see log below). It is deteriorated to the point that not much more than the matchstick container remains. Handle carefully: there are some pokey bits.
This trail is pretty popular and is often quite busy when the weather is nice. Be mindful of bystanders.
Have fun!
