Geocache Description:

A Mirkwood Wander is a small trail of caches that take you on a walk over Gotham Hill. The caches are all placed on public footpaths. The path is quite steep in places, and can be very muddy in places in wet weather

Gotham Hill forms a high ridge to the northwest of Gotham "City". At its highest point, about 98 m AOD, you will get a fine panoramic view of almost 360⁰. On a clear day you can see the Derbyshire hills to the west and the Wolds to the east. Across the valley to the east are the nearby West Leake Hills, and the Charnwood Hills can be seen to the south.

The caches provide an opportunity to walk along parts of the scenic and interesting Gotham Heritage Trail. The village of Gotham is first recorded in the Domesday Book survey in 1086. Gypsum has been worked in this area since the Middle Ages, and hillside to the north is pitted with numerous gulies and hollows that represent the remains of old gypsum workings. However, you are unlikely to see Gotham City's more famous celebrities

Cattle and sheep may be present in the fields en route and at the cache site - please keep dogs under control.

The trail is not suitable for pushchairs nor wheelchairs.

The cache is a small cliplock container with room for geocoins, small travel bugs and a few small swaps. It is guarded by "Treebeard" -  the ancient Ent  who also keeps close watch on the nearby "Mirkwood".  Be sure not to be "too hasty" and please replace the cache as found. You will need to bring your own pen or pencil to sign the log sheet.
