Mana Island is DOC managed Scientific Reserve. Visitors are welcome to Mana Island between 8.00am and 5.00pm. People arriving by boat can only land near the ranger station on the eastern shoreline. Tracks around the island allow access to the western clifftops.
The western cliffs of Mana Island are very steep. Nesting seabirds use these slopes for breeding. Nearby to the south, DOC staff are using automated sound attraction systems to try and lure in other species of seabirds that formerly bred on this island before it was converted to farmland. The cache GZ provides some stunning views looking north along the cliffs and towards Kapiti Island. To the the west and south are the Marlborough Sounds at the top of the South Island. The original viewpoint was better but the path there is no longer maintained. So the cache is at an alternative viewpoint. It gets very hot up here on a dry summers day. Make sure you bring plenty of water and sunblock. Keep an eye out for roaming takahe.
Cache is a camo pill bottle.
