The trail officially kicks off at 11:00 am Saturday, May 2 and will include 10 geocache sites in the Huntington area of WV. The main event should be over around noon however we will be at the CVB all day until around 9pm. Handouts will be given out during the event at the CVB and computers to download the listings will be available. The caches will be published as well and be available online. There will be various types of geocaches to experience, including traditionals, unknowns, multis, a letterbox, a Wherigo, and Earthcaches! Last year's inaugural event (GC4WJFQ - 2014 Cabell County Geotrail Kickoff Event) had over 500 visitors attend so we hope we can even make this year's event even better.
Each geocache will have a method to help fill out your geocaching scorecard. For those that like a headstart, one cache will be released at the Friday Night Event. (GC5MZRV - Cache N Cabell: Friday Night @ Barboursville Park). (Barboursville Park is also the site of our new soon to be published letterbox geoart!) When these scorecards are turned into the CVB for verification, you will be asked to fill out a short information card and receive the new 2015 Cabell County trackable geocoin at geocaching.com (available to the first 250 finders, one per team and household please). Permission has been granted for each site. Some sites will contain SWAG.
Make an entire weekend of it. Join us for a morning CITO GC5MCGH - Cache N Cabell LOST HUNTINGTON CITO 2015 before the main event. There's plenty to do and see in Cabell County, so pick up a free visitor's guide with map at the CVB to help you get around. Search for more exciting and unique caches that are already here and complete last year's geotrail (very limited supply remaining). We will have a list of fun and interesting local geocaches at the kickoff events for you to explore. Explore over 40 caches in Barboursville Park, which spans over 750 acres (the location of the Friday night event). Whether its hiking, historical, or creative type caches you enjoy, you won't have to search long - in Cabell County, WV.
