We love family adventures, biking, hiking, camping, and exploring new places. This is a serious hike, and you need a WELL supplied day pack to achieve your goal. THIS IS NOT FOR THE INEXPERANCED HIKER!!!
This is one hard hiking advenature, steep/narrow trail and crossing streams make it great fun. I suggest a good pair of hiking boots, LOTS of water, snacks, flashlights (incase you get stuck coming down in the dark), hiking poles and getting an early start, it is aprox 10+ mile hike round trip. We parked at the Chantry flats parking lot (you will need a day pass for this), after walking down the paved lane we headed out toward the Hogue camp (fork toward the left) where we stopped for a snack. There are enough people on the trail that it makes it fun for socializing and meeting new friends some with four legged companions (leash required), but also cyclist heading down from the top amazing these guys dont fall off the trail. Many of the cyclist have bells to warn you they are coming down... hurry get out of the way they are heading down pretty fast! At the top of Manzanita Ridge there's a wonderful bench there to sit, rest, snack, and talk to other adventurerers that pass by. We went in January, wore lots of layers of clothing as it is nippy, but you warm up as you go! The cache is a large camouflage container with some fun swag for the FTF, as well as some homemade lucky charms, even some fun tokens for the Awesome kids who reach the top (we had a 8yr old who ROCKED IT), and of corse a sign in log....BYOP. Please replace it back like you find it as the camouflage is what fends off the MUGGLES, as well as part of the hint!! Once you find the cache you can head to the top of Mt. Wilson which is another two miles and even better views. On your way down use caution your legs are tired and it's just as steep going down as it was coming up! THIS NOT A HIKE FOR THE FEINT HEARTED!
