Geocache Description:

Congrats to Bluedawg7 with the FTF!

On Sunday May 22nd 2011 a catastrophic EF5 tornado struck Joplin late in the afternoon killing 161 individuals and costing approximatly $2.8 billion.

At Approximately 5:54 p.m. Rangeline Road was the location of a lot of major destruction for the retail industry of Joplin Mo.

The intersection of 20th and Rangeline is one of the busiest in Joplin, Luckily it was a sunday afternoon when the EF5 multipe vortex tornado struck, and the city stores were not as busy as they could have been.  As the storm approached it was estimated to be at the low end of the EF5 classification.

This landmark did survive, and I'm glad that they left it here. Buildings here were completly destroyed and had massive rescue efforts focused in this area, People took cover in any sturdy place they could fid, One story I have seen is of a nearby convienence store where people took cover in the beer cooler. It was smashed but still standing with the roof only being 3-4 feet tall.

-Please post pictures.

-Write a tornado memory if desired.

-Please be sure to replace the camo to ensure its not muggled. (I was eyballed while searching the area, encounters with police may be expected)

-Permission was granted by the owner, Please be respectful and do not Climb on the equipment.

According to the Google Landmark map. This Area is likely to be totally destroyed.

"Based on an extrapolation of confirmed reports of structures which have not just been destroyed but completely leveled and swept to the foundation, with additional severe damage to roads and trees"

The background image is of a wall that was decorated by volunteers durring the rebuilding proccess. It goes by many names "Volunteer house", "Hope House" are a few of the names. The city now has these walls stored in a protected covering in Schiffendecker park, until a museum complex is built to house it. At this point the museum is to be located across the street from cunning ham park at the site of the hospital.
