This is a new cache in my "Episcopal Church (USA) Welcomes You" series. It's at the same church, Ascension Episcopal Church, as my previous cache #3 was, but this one is in a different place on the church campus, at their Labyrinth.
The Church of the Ascension was originally founded in 1904 on Llewellyn Avenue. The congregation moved to this site in 1957, holding services in their parish hall until the completion of this building in 1965. The cache is located very close to a beautiful outdoor brick labyrinth well worth your time to look at and perhaps participate in now, or on another occasion. This is part of a series of 9 caches, and a tenth (puzzle) cache. (Read below about the others). ************************************************************************************* A labyrinth combines the imagery of the circle and the spiral into a meandering but purposeful path. Labyrinths have long been used for meditation & prayer. A labyrinth is not a maze. A maze is like a puzzle to be solved. It has twists, turns, and blind alleys. It is a left brain task that requires logical, sequential, analytical activity to find the correct path into the maze and out. A labyrinth has only one path. There are no dead ends. The path leads you on a circuitous route to the center and then out again. A labyrinth is a right brain task involving intuition and creativity. With a maze many choices must be made, and an active mind is needed to solve the problem of finding the center. With a labyrinth there is only one choice to be made......to enter and walk a spiritual path...... or not. A labyrinth is a metaphor for the journey to the center of your deepest self, and back out into the world with a broadened understanding of who you are. You walk it at your own pace, reflecting as you go, about your life, your issues, your challenges, and your blessings as you move towards the center of the labyrinth. When you reach the center you pause, breathe in, reflect, and then return on the same path out into the world, refreshed, renewed and wiser. ************************************************************************************* This is one of nine caches in a series. There is also a tenth puzzle cache (ECUSA #10). The other caches in this "Episcopal Church Welcomes You" series are: # 1 - Hickory Neck (GCV22G), Toano; #2 - St. Mark's (GCV22K), Hampton (archived); # 3A Ascension'Labyrinth (GC5M6FA), Norfolk; # 4 Emmanuel (GCV22T), Hampton; # 5 St. Martin's (GCV22Y), Williamsburg; # 6 - All Saint's (GCV230), Virginia Beach; # 7 - Eastern Shore Chapel (GCV235), Virginia Beach; # 8A - St. Aidan's (GC115FG), Virginia Beach; # 9 - Glebe (GCV23F), Suffolk; # 10 - End of the Quest (GCV23P) in Virginia Beach. All caches are on the property of Episcopal churches in the Tidewater area. I have secured permission from the clergy of these churches (friends and colleagues of mine) to place these caches on their church's property. However, there could be muggles present at each location, particularly on Sunday mornings. Park in the church parking lot and go behind their basketball court. This cache is a preform tube.
