Owl reads and writes (sort of), and often tells one and all, much more than they want to know. His words of wisdom are sometimes confusing or inaccurate, but his friends don't seem to notice or mind at all.
Since he is the only one of Pooh's friends who can fly, he is very useful for carrying messages.
