Gargrave West~Start or Finish! Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Lowin: Too many caches going missing on this very short series, and so many have already been replaced, in some cases 3 times. Each cache placed, and then replaced, costs money and time. I reckon this series has run it's course, so have taken the decision to archive the Gargrave West series.

There is no way that this cache was disturbed by wildlife. Early finders said it was such a tight fit, that they almost needed tools to get it out.

Geocache Description:

I see this river every day I go to work, and often marvel at it's beauty, so thought today I'd explore it more, and then share :)

This is a short circular walk, with 8 caches over approximately 2 miles Some inclines, some stiles and gates to be negotiated.

You will need to cross a stone bridge (without rails), will be close to the river, stream and a pond, so please take care, especially with little ones.

Sheep in some of the fields today, but I didn't see any signs of cattle (but maybe just that time of the year!)

There is a sign at one point, saying  no bikes.

From the parking area, walk back up the road towards the canal bridge, you will see a footpath sign in the corner of the field on the left, just as you reach the bridge. Follow the direction across the field, until you come to a stile. Cross that.

You are looking for a camo sample tube. Please replace geo cover carefully.

From here, carefully cross the stone bridge, and head off towards the opposite side of the field, you will come very close to the river at one point.

The river meanders wonderfully, be careful not to go too close to the edge, as it there is evidence of landslides into the river.

The very narrow bridge at Coniston Cold, has not one arch, but several, so it was good to see that.

The train line passes in a cutting behind the trees as you start/finish the walk, but you may see trains from a little further on, on the walk.

Enjoy your Aire Amble!

Congratulations to Belbincolne for his FTF, and to Donks42 for their FTF and FTSign
