Geocache Description:

"I will always consider you a friend.
We all have faults we carry,
But forever I consider you my friend
And the problems we will forsee.

Each mountain that we might climb
Each issue that we could face,
Will strengthen our relationship
Problems vanish without a trace.

So when mistrust envelopes you
And our Friendship...you would doubt,
Just remember those little mountains
And together we can work them out.

Your friendship...I will treasure
In all things large and small
For remember God gives these gifts
And Your Friendship..is the best gift of all.

Each Little Mountain - Carolyn Ford Witt

This is an easy hike from the given co-ordinates and is part of a route designed to take you over the summit of Slievefoore (414m) and up to the second summit of Croghan, Raheenleagh (542m) and then on to the summit of Croghan Mountain (658m) itself but a small amount of easy puzzle solving is required for the cache at the summit of Croghan. The whole hike is less than 10km long and should take you approx 3 hours to complete the circuit. as there is a path almost all the way, these caches should be accessible all year round.

Start your hike at the parking co-ordinates given where there is room for up to 6 cars. Follow the waypoints given and turn right towards the summit of Slievefoore Mountain for the geocache. This path will take you to a junction with the obvious path to the right. You will then reach 2 iron gates, go through the first, make sure you close it behind you, then turn left and go through the gate and close it aswell.

You follow a straight grassy path towards another gate. Go through and close and turn right and you have approx 200m off path but the terrain is easy. When you obtain the cache at the man made circle structure at the summit, you can return the way you came, or you can follow the fence downhill to next waypoint. Halfway down this fence there is a ladder you can cross the fence with, use it to make your path a little easier nearer the path. If you do not cross, it is a little harder for the last 20m, but nothing worth worrying too much about.

From this path, continue to the right and up the path to the summit of Raheenleagh Wood Mountain which has the cache. Follow the main path until you reach the noted waypoint for the relevant cache and you will find the cache easily. Once you have found it, you can head along the path towards a gate, from here you can follow the fence to the left, where you will meet a worn path to the summit of Croghan Mountain and the last cache.

Follow the path back this way to the opening in the fence where you can find the unpaved path that will bring you all the way back to the car. As mentioned this cache route should take you approx 3 hours and is suitable for children therefore this is an easy hike on all accounts.

"Coillte promotes the Leave No Trace outdoor ethics programme as the code for recreation users of all its forest properties."

Do not start the trek without all the proper mountain rain gear, waterproof boots and the guidance material, compass, map, GPSr with mapping etc.

Please note that all parts of this cache are hiked at your own risk. The cache owner takes no responsibility of any sort for any reason including accidents or mishaps.

Please be aware that cars parked in areas close to walking trails are vulnerable and they can be vandalised or stolen. Unfortunately this is an ongoing problem which is extremely difficult to solve, so there is a risk involved. I have heard recently that many hiker groups are parking at the nearest population centres and getting taxis to and from the start points at very little expense.

Please observe the country code to the best of your ability. Local landowners often generously allow access to upland areas across or through parts of their private property. Please, please be conscious of this and return the courtesy by keeping all gates closed, immediately and not on your way back!. Please use the gates where appropriate but if you have to climb over them then use the hinged side ONLY.
Please do not cause any damage of any sort to fences or barriers along the way.
