In June of 2011 the official Guinness World’s Record recognized the Trinidad Scorpion as the hottest pepper in the world.  The record setting Butch T Trinidad Scorpion tested at 1,463,700 SHU (SHU = scoville heat units). 

As of 2015, it is the fourth hottest pepper following: 7 Pot Douglah 1,853,936 SHU, Trinidad Moruga Scorpion 2,009,231 SHU, and the North Carolina Reaper at 2,200,000 SHU.
